How others treat the babies will determine if the sense of threat can be replaced by trust. Once a feeling of trust is recognized babies are able to gain a sense of security and they then begin to learn how to trust other people around them such as their relatives and parents. The very first and most important person to teach a baby about trust and mistrust is in most cases are their parents. Parents in all cultures are expected to take good care of their children and to meet all their most basic needs. Personally, this stage went very successfully for me, my parents took very good care of me and met my every need. They made sure that I had food, water, shelter, clothing, love, and everything else I needed. Gaining a sense of personal control over the world is important at this stage of development and failure to complete this stage can leave children with a sense of inadequacy and self-doubt. When I was eighteen months to three years old I was definitely picking out my own outfits, trying to pick out my own food and learning how to toilet train. Learning how to do these basics things were slightly more difficult for me than other children because my parents divorced when I was six months old. This left me trying to learn these basic skills with two different parenting approaches to everything and that made the process a little slower than it would have for children with two parents in the household. When I started attempting to dress myself my mom or dad never let me leave the house without changing my outfit, but I would always try anyway. I have also seen a lot of pictures of myself feeding myself and making a huge mess of myself and everything around me. When I was around one and a half my mom started to toilet train me and by the age of two I learned how to go to the bathroom by myself. My mom has told me it took only took one accident in my big girl underwear to never have an accident again. As I young child I always wanted to do everything by myself even though I wasn’t always capable of doing
