The four pillars of NHS, service, scholarship, leadership, and character, mean a lot to me. Some of them relate to me more than others, but all play a huge part in NHS. Not one of them is more important than the rest. Creating these four pillars help shape who you are in NHS and even who you are for the rest of your life. To me, I think being a part of NHS would mean being able to learn and become a more responsible, smarter, helpful leader. Service means giving your time to help people. I don’t think this kind of service is forced; you have to want to be able to help out the community and be involved with what is going on. You need to be willing to work for the benefit of those in need without being mandated or wanting something in return.

Being a leader doesn’t mean you have to be the best it just means you have to want other people to become better and are willing to help them as well as yourself. Taking a role in something that will help even one person can mean so much and give you greater things in return. Just knowing that you helped and taught someone to make them a better person should be a wonderful accomplishment. A leader does not mean you have to go and do something outrageous; the little things mean more than the big once in a while. Last but not least is character. Your character is what shows what kind of person you are and how you act around people. Character is what makes you different from someone else. Having a good character is being responsible and respectful. Being a leader shows a lot of character. If you are a determined student with lots of hope and have a positive attitude with determination then you can have good character.
