This essay is divided into four sections. It will begin by explaining the 4 key roles that influence persuasion, starting with; the communicator, the message, how the message is communicated and the audience. Persuasion is the process which involves the way a message is communicated to then produce change in an individual’s personal beliefs, their attitude towards something or their behaviour after hearing a persuasive message. Perusasion is something used in everyday life, whether it is a child persuading their parents to let them eat candy or a political figure on the news persuading the audience to vote for them. With persuasion come two routes to achieving it. The first is the central route. This route is activated when an individual is motivated and has given thought to an idea

This arises when individuals are not motivated or refuse to take in much information about an issue. This may be due to being occupied or unfocused and therefore unable to process the message well.

One of the main aspects of persuasion is the source of the message, which is usually the communicator. A well known figure who is famous for their art of persuasion is Aristotle. He was a philosopher who created the whole idea of persuasion which we have continued to use over the years especially when attempting to persuade an individual. The role of the communicator is to simply pass on a message to an audience. A communicator has to know what persuades and motivates an individual to want to listen. They can then make changes and use this information to form their argument and start their approach to persuasion. It is important for the communicator to discover the needs of their audience. “You get agreement that the needs, as you understand them, are accurate.” (Aubuchon, N, 2011).
