The Four Journeys In Henry Hudson's Life

Through the late fifteen-hundreds, to the sixteen-hundreds, there were many, many explorers to land on our continent known as North America. Henry Hudson was one of these. In his career, he went on four trips that have impacted today’s world. Later on, he discovered what we call The Hudson River. The story starts with Hudson’s background. Then, reasons for his explorations, who sent him, and ends with his expeditions in all. To start with, Hudson’s background was pretty common. Hudson was born in 1565 and died on June 22, 1611. He was married to a woman named Katherine and had three sons, Richard Hudson, John Hudson, and Oliver Hudson. Rumor has it that Hudson worked aboard other ships growing up. Many explorers, just like Hudson, were sponsored by various people. Some by royalty, some by private companies, etc. Henry Hudson was sponsored by a couple of businesses (private companies) for these voyages. Each of the four voyages Hudson went on in his career were sponsored by either the Muscovy Company or the Dutch East India Company. Henry Hudson went on these expeditions for one main reason. He went to North America looking for the famous trade route to Asia. The passage he wanted to take went right through the North American continent into the Pacific Ocean. In his first voyage, he went in 1607 and returned in 1608 and went near Greenland, and in icy places. He also ran into very icy situations. His second voyage lasted a year as well (1608-1609) and he went north of Russia, then west and crossed the Atlantic, down the North American coast, explored the New York Harbor, and went back up what we now call the Hudson River. On his third voyage, Hudson only crossed the Atlantic before returning home from. This voyage only lasted a year as well (1609-1610). Hudson’s fourth and final voyage, he went in about 1611 and never returned because his crew left him and a few other crew members, including his son, John Hudson, behind and went to North America without all of them. They all eventually died because they were all left on an icy island with very little food and supplies. When they found Hudson’s body, they wrapped him, weighted him, and sank him in the Hudson
