Improved Essays
The idea of an apocalypse has become widely popular over the past few years with shows like The Walking Dead and Doomsday Preppers. This phenomenon is not a new idea, it was actually prophesied thousands of years ago in the Bible. The book of Revelation uses the four horsemen as symbols of prophetic things to come. These horsemen are used to reign in an unprecedented tribulation period of seven years, known as The Tribulation. There are events currently taking place that suggest the world is ripe for the four horsemen. The first horsemen to be introduced in the book of Revelation is The

Modern day people have a strange affinity for using aspects of ancient cultures as a basis for their cults, prophecies and as spiritual guides to the future. Perhaps the most memorable occurrence of this affinity was the infamous prophecy concerning the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012, an idea created from belief that the world would end or change in some fashion once that year ended. Of all the actions generated by the aforementioned mentality, this prophecy was perhaps the most ridiculous considering how obviously wrong it was and how little we really know about Mayan culture, iconography, and language. The Mayan Apocalypse of 2012 was the belief that either cataclysmic or transformative events would occur that year on December 21st.…

One way in which Maugham presents ideas of love and desire is destructively. This is evident when Kitty’s love for Charlie leads to Walter presenting her with an ultimatum; either Walter ‘files for a petition’ or she goes with him to Mei-Tan-Fu. Maugham punishes Kitty’s choices and sends her to her potential death, which shows that Kitty’s adultery can have dire consequences. Kitty’s love for Charlie leads to her virtual death sentence and Walter’s self-hatred of having an unrequited love causes him to go with her into a ‘cholera epidemic’. Maugham himself was a homosexual and knew about the need to hide this from the disapproving society he lived in.…

Throughout The Bible, passages describe the character of The Antichrist using both direct prophetic allusions and types (typology). Within all these passages, certain themes are discovered again and again. The composite picture paints a fairly simple-minded yet predetermined individual, driven by an insatiable desire for self-elevation and praise. Like Lucifer before him, this obsession will cause The Antichrist to proclaim himself as God’s co-equal, if not higher. Lucifer’s proclamation is recorded in Isaiah 14:13-14: “ 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north.…

Considering the end of time, we will look at four different views on what the millennium is and where it is placed on the timeline.…

After the four horseman in the first four seals were released there were still three more seals the lamb had yet to reveal, which contained three ways in which the world could end and these were also what John The Apostle predicted. Now the lamb opened the 5th seal and this seal contained the persecution of many people, then the 6th seal was opened and it contained a natural disaster, and finally was the 7th seal which contained the silencing of the Heavens and the lord could not do anything to help the people. The silencing of the Heavens completed the seven seals, symbolizing that Seven is a symbolic number that does good throughout stories such as Genesis, but the number seven in the book of Revelation was a very evil…

Prophetically catastrophic works basically uncover something that was beforehand covered up, for example, the future or the inconspicuous soul world. Whole-world destroying creators, including the creator of Revelations, frequently uncover a dream in which they meet otherworldly creatures, for example, heavenly attendants or beasts, who talk about God's future aims. The Book of Revelation is loaded with imagery used to portray occasions that demonstrate the fight amongst great and malevolence. For example,Jesus is depicted as the sheep of God. A sheep that is little and innocuous, yet kicks the bucket to spare the world from wrongdoing.…

For as long as there has even been a theological understanding of the existence of God, heaven and the story of humankind’s beginnings, there has been a conversation about hell. The presence of hell hearkens back to the Old Testament and the concept grows throughout the Bible until the great unveiling of its physical manifestation in the book of Revelation. It is this final understanding of what hell will be that sticks in the minds of many Christians and theologians. In fact, what has been described in the book of Revelation is the basis for the characterization of hell in popular culture and represents imagery that has since persisted through the generations.…

I, too, also think that the word “rapture” is synonymous to the world ending. This is like the story of Noah’s ark all over again where God sent flood to end people’s corruption and violence. During this time, God’s only way to wash away the sins of the world is to wipe out corrupted people. Fast forward to New Testament, Paul describes rapture opposite to what we think it should be. From my understanding of Paul, he wants us to put our minds at ease, just like what you believe about death and the coming of the Lord.…

In viewing many online debates between Christians and non-believers concerning the matter of God, often times it is the non-believer who obtains the upper hand in the argument. When confronted with difficult questions concerning God’s revelation, many Christians are unable to properly defend the questions of objectors or even the Christian faith. For many Christians, God’s revelation is through the lens of a less than Christian worldview where knowledge of God is imperfect and clarified through societal norms, preconceptions, and judgments (McGrath, 2014). Lacking the biblical knowledge to fend off a non-believers questioning concerning matters of faith, God’s revelation included, Christians resort to their own reason based off theirs and…
