There are four major characteristics of NIT, but I would like to select another four important key points. The first term – social contagion, was used by Nicholas Christakis in his speech about social networks that help to predict epidemics. As soon as NITs are not only technical, but social too, this term can definitely characterize new information technologies. As author explains, contagion means instilling of some theories or choices, or marketing influence on people, by making them to buy something from Internet. For instance, in order to demonstrate the good side of that concept, Christakis provided an example of predicting epidemics or diseases by determining the relationship between people in social networks, which means that your smoking …show more content…
In the article, written by Evan Selinger and Brett Frischmann, they describe the influence of internet on our world. While bringing the key points on the influence of “new smart world” on us, authors noticed the term techno-social engineering. This concept is about creating and designing tools to socialize, and to shape people’s minds. People spend a lot of time, chatting and surfing the Net, however, Selinger and Frischmann argues that people are wasting their time in the internet, since it distracts them from the relationships with their relatives and surroundings. Techno-social engineering also helps cultures to develop moral standards, to have certain behavior and justice standards. The third term – social network site, explains the phenomenon of making connection between people in a profile with bounded system. It allows people to chat with the people, whom they like or prefer to chat random, nevertheless, it sometimes appears in public discourses, as the term networking means chatting with strangers, which is considered to be an invasion to the personal space in some European countries.
