This goes for anyone on a job. Leaving out personal emotions is part of a job. Police officers deal with a lot on the job and sometimes it can affect their personal life. It can be very hard to leave emotions on when it involves children or even death. It should be understood that police officers are human beings. There are times when they are scared and might face fear on the job. However, they have pledged to protect and serve society, no matter how stressful and dangerous the job may be. An officer can’t be seen as being afraid. An officer has to be certain that their personal actions do not affect their job. A self-disciplined officer shows concern for mankind at all times. An officer’s job is never done, even when they go home at night. An officer with self- discipline understands that being an officer should not interfere with having a personal life.
An additional quality of an officer is the fact that officer has to gain the trust of society. If society does not trust police officers, this will make the job very difficult and stressful. He is works at the local police department. When you live in a small town/city, it is easy to know most of the people. This officer comes by my job each day. He is friendly, and he always ask about my kids. We had children who attended high school together. He is the type of officer who will do whatever it takes (within legal bounds) to make sure the young children are staying on the straight and narrow. He is also part of the elementary D.A.R.E. program. He often talks of retiring and working with young children. An incident that stands out in my mind that qualifies this officer as a good officer is when there was a snatch and grab at one of the local gas stations. The suspects were caught on camera, but it was not a clear picture. One of the guys was identified as someone that he knew. He was asked to turn himself in, but instead he became afraid and hid out. He said he was innocent but afraid that he would be railroaded into admitting that he was part of the robbery. Officer Johns knew his family, and he went to them and convinced the mother to let him take the young man in. He told her that he would not let him confess to anything that he did not do, but he was making the situation worse by hiding. The young man agreed, and the officer escorted him to the police station. In the end, it all worked out. The young man said that the officer stood by him the entire time he was
