After his victory he became the first secretary of treasury. With his new position he done a lot for our economy he urged the direct collection of taxes and strong government. But about four years later he married Elizabeth Schuyler in 1780 to cement his political standing. In the same year he stated and argument for stronger national government. Hamilton attracted great disposition from Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, even though Madison and hamilton worked together during the federalist movement during the 1780s. Thomas and james began opposing Hamilton’s federalist party in 1790. Hamilton left his position as secretary of treasury in 1775 to practice law. He continued to be active in the federalist politics, but he was deeply critical in the presidential election of John Adams , later in 1798, at the request of washington Hamilton became the inspector general
