In addition, these demands bring heavy stress levels on police officers that are non-relevant in other occupations. Stress and safety of the police officers could definitely affect their lives and of many people. Even though, being a police officer could have its perks and rewards, its stressful environment could be also a negative aspect of policing because it involves the safety and emotional well-being of an officer and their love ones. Police officers are affected by many different factors such as, high departmental demands, shift work, danger, public detachment and apathy, and are exposed to human misery quite often. According to Roberg et al. (2011), officers are expected to be in control at all times, yet they encounter people at their very worst (pg. 419). These demands of ongoing restraints, to go along with other types of factors, may lead to high levels of stress and poor performance or dysfunctional behavior that could also possibly threaten their lives. The work of law enforcement doesn’t consist of a routine workflow, every day they face a different problem. Their work day could begin by helping an elderly woman cross the street and end up in a vicious scene; surviving a knife attack by an emotional disturbed man. This approach is being practice on a daily basis in many different levels today. In addition, this concept is beneficial in terms of deterring crime and leading to positive interaction between residents and law enforcement personnel. Moreover, community policing goes along with Problem Oriented policing, another positive approach within the police department. The POP approach enhances the limited traditional everyday practices and strategies that police departments carry out. It focuses on specific crime trends and attacks it with different possible strategies that could be able to exterminate the roots of the problem.
