The foundation of spiritual formation is who we are in Christ and also we base this on the word (scriptures) that God gives us in the Bible. Using the Bible as a foundation is how we grow and form spiritually to become more like Christ. God was gracious enough to send his son to this earth so that we could be saved and have a relationship with Him. Spiritual disciplines are how we grow in that grace that God has given us and the grace he has for us that is shown by Him sending His only son for us to redeem the unworthy. As Willard puts it “Spiritual disciplines, ‘exercises unto godliness,’ are only activities undertaken to make us capable of receiving more of his life and power without harm to ourselves or others.” These disciplines are also something we doing daily to strengthen our relationship with God. When you become a believer in Jesus Christ it requires you to change your lifestyle around to how Jesus had once lived here on earth. This is a process that begins at conversion. Once you become a believer you don’t want to live in the same lifestyle as the rest of the world, but instead you want to live as a child of Christ. You will want to turn from your sinful nature that once over powered you. Romans 6:1-2 puts it like this, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no mean! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” We put away those sinful natures and fill them with fruits of the spirit such as,…
