Have you ever felt that you tried your best at something? That you gave it your all? Just to have your hopes crushed, leave you disappointed, and feel as if you have failed to do what you set out to accomplish? This very same thing happened to me my freshman year of high school. I was new to the Forrest City School District, but I did not let that discourage me. I decided to try out for the Forrest City High School Cheerleading team, but unfortunately did not make it. I spent countless hours practicing and practicing, but it seemed as if it was not enough. At first I did not see what I did wrong. I kept asking myself what did I do that was wrong? What did I do that caused me not to make the team? During that time of tryouts, not only was I dealing with tryouts, I was preparing for a conference track meet that same week. Now I 'm not one to make excuses, but I will admit it was a tad big challenging dealing with tryouts, track, and school during that week. At first I wasn 't going to tryout, I figured that I might as well wait until I get more comfortable with the school. After undergoing much consideration and thought, with the help of my fellow classmates, I decided that, as my mother …show more content…
Although I felt that way, I still knew that I could have tried harder. As the day progress my confidence in my tryout started to grow weary. When they made the announcement that the list was up, my heart dropped. I remember walking up the stair to the arena, where the list was posted, with a nervous feeling in my stomach. As I got a better look a the list, I realized that my number was not up there. So I went back to class with tears streaming down my face, and there was a substitute teacher there. Upon entering the class, the teacher immediately stopped me as I walked through the door. She told me that it was going to be okay, that I could tryout again next year, but at that moment I wasn 't even trying to hear

My band director had planned 2 Saturday leadership camps where you were trained on how to teach the incoming freshman the basics of marching (standing at attention, the first step, etc.,) however, I was scheduled to work on both of those days so I had to miss the trainings. I didn’t think it would affect my chances of being drum major, so I went to work as usual, and went about my days leading up to the auditions until my band director called me into his office and said, “There’s really no other way to say this, so I’m just going to tell you straight up not to try out for drum major.” I stood there with tears in my eyes, shaking, as he laughed and told me that I was just going to have to find another way to lead. I walked out and cried, more than I did the first time I didn’t make drum major and for much longer. It was my last chance and I blew it.…

Baseball has and always will be a part of my life. Just like other activities, some seasons have been spectacular and others have been just average. But I have always had this certain drive in me to go through struggles and eventually come out on top among other competitors. During the three nights of tryouts, I was always the first one to finish the sprints, I hustled on every play, and left everything I had on the court. Confident in the way I played, I checked the results when they came out–I had been cut for the second year in a row. My heart dropped and millions of thoughts ran through my mind–I should stop playing basketball, I wasted all my time on something useless, hard work does not pay off. After pondering on these thoughts for several days, I decided to rededicate myself to the sport; I found a more competitive AAU team to play for, IYB Basketball and Wayne PAL Wolfpack, and found myself a trainer. Everyday after finishing my schoolwork, I either went to the gym to lift and play basketball or went to an AAU practice or game.…
