When I was a kid, I used to spend gray birthdays, sad school graduations and lonely days. My dad was working as a landscaper in the United States, all because he wanted to give us a better life. From the last breeze of the cold winter in February until the middle of the warm, scorching summer, my dad was not at home. The communication between my father and I was only by the phone during half of the year. Our ears and voices were always ready to hear something new about each other to keep building the loop of father and son. The distance between my father and I seemed to be farther than the distance between the earth and the sun, but closer like one eye next to the other. I needed my dad during my childhood, but my mom took responsibility in the issue. She dedicated herself to be mother and father at the same time while my dad was perusing a better life for his family. When my mother was by herself, she was taking care of my little brother and me. My mom’s compassion and kindness was strong enough to build a bridge between my father, my bother and I, addressing mile of land to limbo and working hard to keep the family

The excerpt Julia, written by Lillian Hellman, exemplifies a sacrifice filled with love and fear. In my own experience, when someone makes a sacrifice for you, they put aside their happiness and might do things that are outside of their comfort zones to benefitting an individual. Giving something up for the greater good of someone else takes away the happiness and freedom of an individual and replaces it with the determination to continue the overwhelming sacrifice they have decided to take on. In the short story, Julia, written by Lillian Hellman, there are two lifelong friends: Lilly and Julia.…
