The Fly (1986)

Review of The Fly (1986) Seth Brundle, a research scientist, has created a once in a lifetime teleportation machine. He shows how to transport objects and in the beginning is not able to transport anything with skin, for example, the baboon that was horribly turned inside out. Veronica Quaife, a beautiful journalist is very intrigued with his work and inspires him to further his teleportation device. Later, he decides to transport himself through the transmission booth that goes horribly wrong, as a fly enters the booth at the same time. Brundle slowly turned into a giant 6-foot fly that becomes a fascination and invention to him and a horror to Veronica. The first depiction of a fly shown was the small incision of hair growing strongly out of Brundle’s back. The results of the hair that Veronica took to a laboratory were extremely shocking. Brundle was in fact a fly! When flies hairs are touched they bend naturally to let the fly know that it is being touched or touching something. When Veronica would touch Brundle’s hair he would feel a slight pain. Veronica begins to have nightmares of giving birth to a maggot/human form. This depiction of a fly is correct in the sense that she would give birth to a maggot, but there would have to be up to 150 maggot-flies. This may be the large spiders venom, as all true spiders are venomous. The incorrect representation is the horror and willingness to kill humans, which we all believe may be true. As spiders develop as predators of other arthropods, they do not against humans or animals.
