According to Valerie Strauss writer of the article “Five Stereotypes About Poor Families and Education” “While it is true that low income parents and guardians are less likely to participated in this brand of “involvement” (National Center for Educational Statistics,2005), they engaged in home-based involvement strategies, such as encouraging children to read and limiting television watching, more frequently than their wealthier counterparts ( Lee & Bowen,2006).” In stating this, Strauss is saying that parents do cared about their children education that they get involved and encourage them to do better in their curriculum the courses taught in school . According to Parrett, William, and Kathleen M. Budge of “Turning High-Poverty Schools Into High-Performing Schools” when they discuss, “ African American and Hispanics children are three times more likely to be poor than are of white and Asian counterparts”(17). Some will say that there is discrimination treating a person or group differently in school. In the article “How to Discipline Students Without Turning school Into Prison” by Jeff Deeney discussed “Black and Latino Children are more likely to be disciplined, be more severely disciplined, and are more frequently are suspended or expelled or sent to special alternative schools. “Zero-Tolerance” policies that presumed all explanations for infractions as small as being late to schools are excused and there’s no such thing as mitigating circumstances have been particularly hurtful to poor black and Latino students”(2). In stating this, Deeney says that Black and Latino children are most likely being punished through this Zero-Tolerance policy. This policy are being hurtful to low income black and Latino students. This punishments can be too much on the low income student that they are more likely to drop out of school. I have seen students that had drop out because they felt that they were being judge and punished instead of getting help with their problems that they had. Felt too overwhelm with the schools system.
