The Five Stages of Prejudice and Film Reflection
I was able to relate to the video many times throughout the film. It didn’t really surprise me to see a someone like Frank who wants to end immigration. In our current election this year we have seen one of our candidates that want to create “a great wall” while the other one has a totally different view. I think everyone if not most of us have experienced someone having prejudice against us. Prejudice is something that could have a great impact on our society and it can start with a simply act that can ripple into greater effects. It is important that we understand how prejudice can lead to harmful effects and that we have to take action against it.

The second stage of prejudice is avoidance. Because Frank didn’t create connections and interacted with people who thought different or that were immigrants he didn’t know what they went through and their reasoning. This happens a lot in our society were we exclude ourselves from other groups because we have a certain negative view about them without truly getting to know them first. This step leads to discrimination, which eventually turn to physical assaults and then genocide.
Luckily Franks prejudice towards immigrants stopped at the third step before it got to actually hurting those who didn’t have the same views as he did. What really struck me was how he had a strong opinion against illegal immigration but yet his parents were immigrants. It makes me wonder if his opinion would be different if his parents had come to the united states illegally like many others. I believe it would given that at a young age he would grow up seeing and experiencing the challenges of an illegal
