There are 5 stages of development in life course, these stages are the foundation of our existence. It affects a person’s behavior, attitude, and orientation from birth to adulthood. The following stages consists of; Childhood (birth to age 12), Adolescence (ages 13 to 17), Transitional Adulthood (ages 18 – 29), the Middle years (ages 30 – 65), the Older years (63 and older).
The two developmental stages that I choose to discuss are adolescence (ages 13 -17) and Transitional adulthood (ages 18-29).
When discussing adolescences you have to talk about the rapid body changes as puberty becomes an important part in a child’s development. Teen’s sexual curiosity is often expressed by affection for others, such as teen idols, rappers, and movie stars. Many teens think that they are invincible and that nothing bad could possibly happen to them. This will cause them to engage in high risk behaviors such as alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, and sexual intercourse. Friends mean "everything" to the middle adolescent. Strong emphasis on friends and their peer group and the need for peer approval uses much of the teen's energy. Middle adolescents often confide more in each than with their parents.
The next stage is transitional adulthood (18-29) transitional period between childhood and adulthood, whose cultural purpose is the preparation of children for adult roles.
