Islam is the world’s fastest growing religion and is getting larger in terms of followers every year. In the year of 2050 Islam will grow from 1.6 billion to 2.76 billion followers. The word Islam means submission because people are submitting their will to God. Islam has many religious roots pertaining to other world Religions. In the media Islam is stereotyped for not practicing peace by saying Muslims commit acts of terrorism, women don’t have rights and that the Jihad is a holy war which are not true. Also giving to the poor encourages new growth in the economy by poor people know what they need, and if a Muslim gives them money they can buy it, for example a poor person may buy a cow and start a business earning money to support themselves. In Judaism they also do a compulsory donation to the needy and it is called Tzedakah but rather than giving 2.5 % it’s only one-tenth of their income to the less fortunate. Another example of The Five Pillars affecting a Muslims life is fasting during Ramadan. Ramadan is a Muslim festival that remembers the first revelation of the Qur’an to the prophet Muhammed. “Every year in the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sundown, abstaining from food, drink and sexual relations” . Fasting is an example of how Islam practices peace and is connected to Christianity and Judaism because not eating makes a Muslims energy go down and they cannot do as many things such as committing violent acts. Fasting also helps with purifying the body because Muslims gain sympathy for people who go hungry every day.
