Randi is a magician who put a million dollars into a bank account that he would give to anyone who could prove that they have psychic abilities. He spends his time testing whether or not people actually have psychic abilities by setting up tests using scientific standards. He always can come up with a answer or a trick to show how psychic people can use their abilities without being a psychic.

An example would be when Randi set up an experiment for a man who used dowsing rods to try to find hunting dogs. The man would take some hair from the hunting dog and then when the hunting dog would go off and run away he would only be able to find the correct dog half of the time. Through the illusions of societal enthusiasm, he has used the art of psychics to test the scientific point of view of the many unanswered concerns of their prudence. This process for Synesthesia includes eliminating either the unconscious mind or conscience mind by several sessions of deep hypnosis, including, but not limited to, methods such as the magnetic hand method and the Betty Erickson method. Most Synesthetes who undergo hypnosis often choose to remove the unconscious mind, simply because this could possibly eliminate dreamlike perceptions; however, there are both benefits and detriments associated with Synesthetic hypnosis. If the Synesthete chooses to remove their conscious mind, he/she would have to eliminate sense either partially or in its entirety. The possible loss of a sense proves why most Synesthetes chose to remove either strictly the unconscious mind or choose to cope with Synesthesia, rather than undergoing hypnosis. The other rumored, but not confirmed, forms of treatment include gene therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy; however, many experts consider ridding of the unconscious mind to cure Synesthesia exceedingly risky, and many Synesthetes opt out of hypnosis and find multiple ways to cope.…

They try to go in with an unbiased mind set as much as possible and concern themselves with being open to the possibility that the answer to the question they have formulated could go in either direction of proof or disproof. Discipline and tediously repeated and controlled experimentation is lacking in the field of paranormal research. Many are in the field for the thrill and excitement of the hunt, so to…

How can we pinpoint mentality? In “Incorrigibility as the Mark of the Mental” Richard Rorty believes he has figured it out. Rorty, as his title would suggest, believes incorrigibility (when something can not be proven false) is the mark of the mental. Whether this is true or not, the more radical claim that stems from his argument is that mentality is merely a social construct that could, in theory, one day disappear all together. I don 't agree that either of these claims are necessarily true and I will offer examples later in this paper to push back on these claims.…
