The five factions all have their own purpose in society. Abnegation looks after the factionless and our the leaders of the city because they are committed to being selfless. Dauntless protect the city from outside and inside sources and guard the gate surrounding the city. Amity was created to have a peaceful society and they farm/make food for the other factions. They also provide understanding counselors and caretakers Candor is said to make the best leaders in law since they are the most trustworthy faction. Erudite creates all the technology in the factions, researchers and doctors come from this faction, and they are responsible for keeping the records of the city and faction.
