As a child I thought wow, they have on fancy clothes, drive nice cars, travel and have an exciting life. Transitioning from a child to a young adult, my childhood admiration for leadership change to the thought of why would anyone want to be a leader. My thoughts towards leadership changed as I began to experience bad leadership. However, being the person that I am I never allow, a few experiences to tell the whole story. Therefore, as an adult I can truly say that I have experienced great leadership that has taught me skills that I use daily. I see leadership as an opportunity to change lives. The journal article on Leadership in Social Work, describes the five common elements of social work leadership profession as: “(1) proaction, (2) values and ethics, (3) empowerment, (4) vision, and (5) communication.” From my perspective these are foundational ethics of Social Workers, however, I do not see the profession moving forward with just these skills alone. I have worked for non-profit organizations, under the leadership of Social Workers and the one element that most of them lack was a business skills. They knew program, clients, and grants; I didn’t see any of them reach out to corporate entities for financial assistance not even after their programs lost government funding. While working as a leader at a non-profit agency, I used my business skills to approach landlord, community grocery stores, and businesses to obtain services for my clients. I believe as social workers develop their skills that taking a course in business would enhance the level of services that they would supply to their …show more content…
Over the course of my life, I have had several people to tell me that I am a good leader because of how I communicate with others, that I am a planner, or because I work towards figuring out a better way. According to the Gallup’s Strength Finder Assessment, my leaders where not far off on their view of skills; my five strengths are Achiever, Self-Assurance, Relator, Positivity and Strategic. Now that I am armed with some definitive information on my leadership strengths, I am looking forward to see how to develop these skills and move forward as a leader. I want to become a transformational leader, that would cause change in a positive way in other people lives. Therefore, I have decided to spend more time taking risks to advance myself and less time calculating

Leadership is defined as being a leader of an organization or a group of individuals. To me a leader is someone who will give their all to accommodate someone in obligation of assistance. A leader doesn’t give up on hard task and pushes to be an example for their peers. I have demonstrated my leadership in and out of school by being a responsible, honest and hardworking individual, who expresses empathy to help those who didn’t think they could achieve a goal on their own. While in high school I have been in multiple extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Class Treasurer, NHS and Yearbook.…

An interesting thought about a leadership is that if a sample population is asked what are the characteristics of a great leader there would be a variety of answers because each individual has their own formulated idea about how a great leader should act and conduct tasks.
