The First Wives Club, Pay It Forward, And Remember The Titans

Americans love movies. We watch them on the big screen, on our home theater systems, on our laptop computers and even on our smart phones. Most movies, however, are quickly forgotten. The movies that do make an impression are those that inspire, encourage and motivate us to go beyond ourselves. These movies touch us, emotionally and intellectually. Three movies I found inspiring are The First Wives Club, Pay it Forward, and Remember the Titans.
The First Wives Club is one of my favorite movies. I found the way these women stood together and made their vision a reality very inspiring. The four of them reunited at a wake for a fellow classmate who committed suicide after she found out her husband was being unfaithful. These women were all betrayed by their spouses, but they supported one another and together they overcame the heartbreak and struggles they were facing. They showed me the importance and the power of friendship. We can go through many hardships in life, as long as we have one person there to support us in any way needed. That is all that matters. The movie taught me that we all have arguments with our friends. Regardless of the severity, at the end of the day, our true friends are there for us. It

It is about a boy named Trevor whose Social Studies teacher assigns him a class project to do something to change the world. Trevor decides to do something big for three people who really need it, with the understanding that each would do the same for three more. In this movie, he inspired me to be selfless and to do good for others regardless of what I get in return. He also showed me the importance of motivation. In this movie, he doesn’t give up on helping anyone. This movie taught me so much. Overall, it taught me how to be a better person and to remember that everything starts with a thought, followed by passion, motivation, and dedication. Everything starts somewhere; why not with

The documentary named Suburban America: Problems and Promise is an extremely interesting film in my own opinion due to the issue that it brings and discusses with regards to the suburbia. The movie is by APT, which stands for the American Public Television. The documentary highlighted a lot of places in the United States of America such as Long Island, Orange County, and Cleveland that discusses the changes that occurred in the suburban areas in which every area gave its own story in the film. The audience that was focused on during the documentary is the one that lives in the suburbia and the changes of those places socially and politically. All of these places have issues such as an aging infrastructure and with such problems the suburbia is still alive.…

Society Film Analysis Movies are very prevalent in discussing issues in today’s society. By using anthropology, sociology, and psychology, one is able to connect films to any issue. The films American history x, Crash, Cry Freedom, The Pianist and Pleasantville all display different social issues, such as discrimination, conformity and charismatic leaders. Discrimination is prejudicial thoughts acted out towards anyone, usually based on his or her race and ethnicity. Anthropologists can look towards structuralism and the complex rules that determine what are good and bad, in order to know how discrimination can be spreading in a society.…

After watching the movie “Waiting for Superman” for the second time since beginning my college career it just reiterates to me how messed up our public school system is. In this movie we follow about five children’s stories as they go through the lottery process of getting into school that will help them succeed in the future as opposed to the low performing public school they are currently in line to attend. The title refers to the need for someone or something to be able to come into this nation and help solve the problem of poor school systems. Whether that be the system as a whole, the teachers, or the community. Whatever the case may be, education is failing these students along with countless others throughout our nation and it is a problem that needs to be handled, however, there are not enough people willing to give up their job security in order to be effective teachers as opposed to just giving out the information.…

Spirited Away uses the motif of food, which plays a crucial role in every transformation. The first transformation occurs when Chihiro’s parents devour the food they find in an empty park. Because the spirits perceived them as greedy consumers without appreciation, they transform the two consumers into pigs – a possible source of food themselves. The intemperate consumption of food resulted in a negative transformation, which began the plot for Chihiro to rescue her parents. The negative consequences from excessive consumption are also seen through the character No-Face, a spirit that eats others to gain their identities.…

The subject of the short film “Geri’s Game”, is that even when you are alone you will always have yourself. When you are feeling that nobody cares and you are alone with nothing to do, just remember that you always have yourself. This is what Geri did in this short film. He is alone with nothing to do, so he goes to the park and plays chess by himself. He does this by putting glasses on to play one person, then taking them off to play another person.…

September Favorites Long time, no see. University has been a whirlwind of experiences that I’ve barely had time to catch my breath and just breathe. I meant to post once a week on here, but as you can see, I missed my goal. Between figuring out classes, homework, making friends, rushing, joining clubs, and exploring LA, I feel as if I never have time to myself. I find myself constantly surrounded by my suitemates (perhaps the best people at Pepperdine), constantly laughing or complaining about class together.…

Through, The Great Depression and World War II, movies reflected and responded the lives of Americans. The Great Depression which took place during the 1930s, was the greatest economic crisis of the 20th century. The US fought World War II to stop the Japanese and the Natzi attempt of world dominance. Both of these events took a big toll on the morals of Americans which resulted in the desire to escape. While movies in the 1930s were a means of escape for Americans from the Depression, the movies of the 1940s transitioned to a more realistic tone and were dominated by war related themes.…
