Is Genesis 1-11: Ethical Or Historical?

The first eleven chapters of Genesis was written in a time much more reserved than ours, it is important to keep in mind that during this time period they did not have the advancements of technology and science that we currently have today. The beginning of Genesis tells the story of creation, the growth of God’s people, and then focuses in on humanities corruption. Genesis 1-11 is considered a myth, however this does not mean it is a fantasy (Genesis 1-11: Mythical or Historical? 2). Genesis 1-11 is not to be regarded as literal, but as a guidance of the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and civilizations. Genesis 2:24 says “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” The relationship between man and woman’s core purpose is multiply the earth, and therefore must be solely between a man and a woman. Not only is God the God or relationship but he is also the God of love (1 John 4:7). We are called to be loving in all relationships (1 Peter 4:8). We all created in the image of God, it is most important to remember that everyone is made in His image and by loving his creation we are loving him (The Book of Common Prayer
