It was called “The Tunnel of Oppression”. In the Tunnel, there were a variety of displays of the ways people could be oppressed. Some of them were attractiveness, age differences, differences in race, and gender inequality. They first showed what people expect women and men to look like. For example, men are supposed to look like G.I. Joe and women are supposed to look like Barbie, and that a lot of this culture does compare people based on their looks. Another display they had that really caught my attention was a display of ageism. The one quote from that display said, “Because people see an older person when they looked at him, they didn’t see someone who could do things; they saw someone who couldn’t do things.” There were also several other pictures and quotes like that one for that display as …show more content…
How women or men are put down if they don’t live up to the expectations society has for attractiveness. One of the facts in the lookism display was that Barbie’s measurements are actually extremely unhealthy and that there is not enough room in her torso for all of her vital organs. This is something the advertising companies fail to mention when they advertise or make little girls wants to grow up and mature just like Barbie. The Tunnel even had a display of Human Trafficking. Apparently most of the people who end up being sold as a sex slave eventually get broken down to the point to where they think that that is all they are meant to do and all they are capable of
