Early Childhood Observation

The first individual observed was a 7-month old child. The child is my cousin and was just born a few months ago, and with the approval of his parents I was able to observe and take notes on his behavior. His overall behavior was not out of the ordinary and observing him for almost an hour allowed me to get a physical demonstration of all the various developmental characteristics we learned in class. Some of these characteristics include the palmar reflex which was immediately demonstrated as soon as I attempted to place a finger on the palm of his hand. The symmetrical tonic reflection was gone and not demonstrated as we have learned in class, about how as the child develops, various reflexes begin to disappear. The stepping reflex was also …show more content…
I asked the kind day care lady if I could observe them for an hour and take notes for a school project and she graciously allowed me to. One thing I noticed at first glance was the sheer amount of energy that the toddler displayed, he was jumping everywhere, hopping over objects, running different places with moderate amounts of coordination. In relation to his jumping, whenever he would climb onto a bed and jump off, he did not have enough balance to hold himself upright on the bed resulting in a wavered jump, along with the landing which was uncoordinated resulting in landing on all four appendages. Running was also in beginner stages, stability was favored over mobility, ergo his feet were planted flat when he ran increasing his stability, arms were also in high regard limiting his overall movement but giving him …show more content…
His ideas were on a tangent so one sentence would lead to another idea leading to another where a concrete sentence could not be formed. It was also common for him to forget about what he was talking about half way through a sentence and physically try to regain his recollection only to be silent if he could not and try to play off embarrassment by directing our attention else where. Overall the observation of the toddler was nothing out of the ordinary, although we never really talked about speech development in class, it seemed to be a pretty standard characteristic within the children

While Jessica was holding her son, Dylan was very active by making loud, single vowel sounds and moving his feet. I assume he can not hold the anticipation to go on about his day and play with his toys. Once the evaluation began, some movements would just come along as the mother described. Others would require repetitive trials in order to get a true analysis; anything else would require asking the mother. Overall; Dylan has exhibited accurate acquisition of motor skills of an 8 month old infant should have…

I have always loved being around kids. When I worked at a childcare center, I enjoyed being with the two-year-olds. Later on, when I was put into an infant classroom, I loved every bit of it. It has been a little over two years that I have not worked with infants. When I saw that we needed to observe a child, I automatically said I wanted to observe a newborn baby.…

When I was pregnant with all my children I would be filled with anticipation with what will they look like and who will they be with they grow up. But the sad part of this anticipation is wishing past every stage of their development to see the adult they will become. I often wonder if my mom thought the same things when she was pregnant with me and I wonder if she likes what she sees now that I am an…

Observation: Rise Program Physical Setting Rise is a beautiful facility. All of the windows looking into the classrooms and looking outside are my favorite because they provide light, openness, and a sense of connection throughout the whole building. The commons is also a great area. It is large and open for all of the kids to spread out and explore their surroundings, while engaging in gross motor activities, such as going down a slide, riding a tricycle, or jumping on a trampoline.…

It is important to evaluate whether or not the EYPP is making a difference to the children who need it the most. In the early years observations take place to assess where a child currently is working within according to the EYFS. This is where a good relationship between the setting and family would make a difference. A knowledgeable key person will know their key child’s starting points and will be able to track their progress through their assessments. In May 2015 OFSTED began including children receiving EYPP in their inspections.…

Introduction: Child development involves emotional, physical, sociable, and intellect changes over a period from conception through adolescence. Childhood is a multifaceted process in which many changes occur. To fully understand the changes throughout childhood, one interview and observation was conducted to a toddler perspective, and a second interview and observation was implemented on a school-age child. Vast changes arise from infancy and toddlerhood, jumping to later childhood, and that was deceptive when comparing the outcomes from the two observations. Alex, who is eight years old, was the topic of the school-age child interview and observation.…

My field work experience had started in the preschool and where I have done the majority of my observations thus far. In the preschool I was beginning to understand how the different of components of the preschool all had concepts of phycology through all aspects of the classroom. During my time I saw how Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, how students handled new information through various methods, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective are incorporated through different sections of the classroom. The classroom was based that learning should not be a structured experience, but learning should be developed through play and exploration.…

In their early years, children go through many stages of development to help them grow and learn certain skills to use as they get older. These developmental stages include the developmental movement patterns that healthy babies naturally move and communicate through during their first year of being alive. Brain-compatible dance education is a key part to aiding children in establishing these proper developmental patterns such as physical motor skills, cognitive skills, and emotional skills. Children need to have proper amounts of floor time during infancy to help them learn how to demonstrate strong movements. Infants who have adequate amounts of floor time during infancy develop stronger muscles and progress their motor skills.…

For example, the infant, toddler, and preschooler that I observed were all on different levels of language development. As written in the first multi-age running record, the infant could only articulate one word phrases or sounds, like, “Voo.” The toddler could speak phrases with two or more words, such as, “See it, see it, see it!” Then, the preschooler could communicate with complete sentences, like, “I’ve got another pancake.” It was interesting to see each of the children developing language within different stages of early childhood.…
