Reflection Paper On Shadowing A Class

I shadowed a junior, who will be referred to as Sarah, through 6 class periods. The classes observed included Government, Informational Technology (IT), band, lunch, and a free period during which Sarah worked in the office.
The high school in which I observed showed its age, there was a very warm feel to the building. The first classroom I was in grew almost unbearably warm, there was still a chalkboard in the room, and the room itself felt crowded. The feeling of being crowed carried through the building, especially the hallways during class changes and during these changes there was a sense of urgency to get to class. I don’t think I saw more than one or two students stop at their lockers between classes.
In the next classroom, I was in,

I think during first period, which was government, was when she was the least enthusiastic. Of course, part of that could have been contributed to it being her first class of the say. She did talk to another student a few times and to me before the class started, but she didn’t join in on the class discussion. Instead, she doodled and wrote in her notebook for the majority of the time.
In contrast, once the bell rang her attitude changed almost immediately. She smiled and talked to one of her friends until we reached her next class. Which was IT and after putting her bag in the designated bag area, she introduced to her teacher and explained why I was there. From there I observed that Sarah had more friends in that class than her previous one. Most of them were male and I noticed that there was a lot of teasing back and forth. Especially, when she expressed disappointed that one male student in particular was absent. Sarah and these students also talked about band, she even called dibs in the snare drum if it was needed during practice. The talking didn’t get in the way of her work and she had almost finished the assignment by the time 3rd period was over. Even though the teacher had to step in and tell them to keep the noise down for the other students working. I also asked her several interview questions at this

Kathleen Gregg sits on the couch straight faced as usual, probably already thinking of what she will say before I ask a single question. She answers almost every question, more like she was writing it, not saying it, with an indifferent tone. Her high school experience was divided, on one side there was the small desert town, and on the other was the rich sophisticated San Diego suburb. Basically the exact opposite of each other , unknowing of the other.…

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

Having gone to two different high schools I got to experience, firsthand, just how different two schools in the same county can be. Marvin ridge and Weddington High School are completely different in their appearance, their students and their academics. Marvin was the first high school that I attended. Its nickname was " Marvin Rich". The Ridge had a certain feeling to it when you stepped foot in its doors, almost as if the air was filled with exhaust from pricey cars and cologne from name brand stores.…

Self-Reflection 2 Eliut Lopez-Enriquez Millersville University Moral distress comes in many ways to many nurses. My moral distress situation came about when an unresponsive patient came to the emergency room and the family had a Do Not Resuscitate/Do Not Intubate paperwork. I was the primary nurse; the house supervisor was present to ensure that the proper paperwork was at hand. After verification of the paperwork and talks with the family, the team stood by to ensure the patient no further suffering and no further distress felt by the family.…

My second year of high school was difficult for me as I had taken on my first AP class and I had learned that my aunt had been diagnosed with cancer. That year took a toll on my grades, overall GPA, and class ranking, which all went down because I focused all of my attention solely on my one AP class. I would also be constantly worried about my aunt and I would catch myself drifting off just thinking about her, hoping that she was okay. Junior year, I was determined to obtain a higher GPA and a better class ranking, and as a result I would skip out on family events when I had homework to do…

There are several concepts we learned about in my community class that apply to my service work. We Care Arts strives to not only stabilize members of the community with disabilities, but they also recognize the need across the entire community and travel to schools, nursing homes, and even hospitals to give art lessons. In this way, We Care Arts strives to help develop the greater Dayton community and not just their clients. In class, we learned about what it means to work towards community development. While some people believe that community development is strictly an economical choice, developing a community also requires getting citizens to care about the future of their city.…

The first skill that was used to engage my client was using an open ended question at the beginning of my interview. According to Hohman (2002), “open-ended questions are those that have a variety of possible answers and do not limit the client” (p.20) using this strategy allows the client to explore his own thoughts and it encourages the client to do most of the talking. I started my conversation with my client by asking a simple open question for example “how was his day going ?” later I saw myself asking deeper questions such as “You mention that your brother is an alcoholic, how is your relationship with your brother?” this allowed me to listen to my client story in his own words and to keep the interviewing flowing.…
