America, a country that used to be defined by bad asses and strong leader, now is defined by the sensitive and stupid. When and if we have a society built of people afraid of answering the hard questions what will we be? People need to speak their minds and stand up for what they believe in. limiting what and where certain topics can be spoken is very unconstitutional. We need to come together as a country so we never have to deal with that problem; because, if we don’t we could see the end of the first amendment and may end up giving away the rest of our rights.
“Students who won’t hear other perspectives are essentially sticking their fingers in their ears and pretending the issue is not open to discussion.” A very true statement spoken by Julie Lythcott-Haims in her article, gives a good insight on what people who can’t handle the truth do. Ignoring an issue doesn’t make it easier or make it go away, it just makes the listener worse off for it. We will see companies afraid to address safety concerns because no one wants to be wrong. Along with the work place our political system is dependent on people saying what needs to be said, not only saying what won’t offend anyone. How will our political system work if our elected officials are too scared to speak their minds? Politics are all about arguing and if they wouldn’t our leaders would just roll over to whoever tells them to. We could lose the country if we had a whole generation of political leaders who are afraid to stand for what they believe in to a foreign power. America needs powerful leaders and will need men and women to be strong talk about the crap no one else wants to talk
