Comparison of the Financial Well-Being of Land O’ Lakes and General Mills When assessing a company’s financial health, it can be beneficial to take a gander into their balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. This allows for a thorough analysis between companies. General Mills and Land O’ Lakes are both food companies and this paper is analysis between the two companies with a focus on their balance sheets, income statements, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and cash flow statements to identify the company’s health. General Mills has $5,330.8 million in total current liabilities and Land O’ Lakes has $5,206,807 in total liabilities. These figures are very close; nonetheless General Mills has more total liabilities, but also more money in assets than Land O’Lakes. A successful company has more assets than liabilities. General Mills has $21,812.6 million dollars in total assets and only 5,330.8 million dollars in liabilities. Land O’ Lakes has $6,516,423 dollars in assets and $5,206,807 dollars in liabilities. Looking at these figures, General Mills has more in assets vs. liabilities than Land O’ Lakes. Land O’ Lakes has $9,508,900 dollars in total liabilities and equities. General Mills has $22,191.5 million dollars in total liabilities and equities. Healthy companies have a good balance between liabilities and assets. The cash flow cycle starts with cash and goes through the cycle of setup, assets, credit production, sales, collection and then results back into cash. “The first line is net income because, as we’ve noted, a prime objective of this report is to show differences between net income and new cash flow” (Siciliano, 2015). As of November 2017, General Mills has $852.4 million in net earnings. At the end of the year in 2017, Land O’ Lakes had $364,833 dollars in net earnings. Statement of cash flow is crucial as it shows investors how much cash the company has generated during a period of time. Furthermore, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is it a tool for companies to measure their performance in a numerical way. Once these numbers are read, it allows employees to see the health of the company they work for, and it also gives investors an idea of how well or bad the business is doing.
