Thomas realizes that he has enough income to support his family and is not willing to sacrifice the time that he has with his family in pursuit of a career. This decision was influenced by Hopkins who placed his entire life and effort into the hands of the company which drove his family away. Currency has great value and once you attain enough of it to support your minimal needs then you can begin to pursue your family 's and your own contentment.
