In the fight against racial policing, young activists have created campaigns titled #SayTheirName and #SayHerName. Under In the #SayHerName campaign, the activists have tried to spread awareness about the black victims who don’t have a voice to speak for themselves because they’re no longer here. The #SayHerName movement, another movement in connection to the #saytheirname campaign, focuses on police brutality against black women. Sandra Bland, an innocent black woman, was found dead in her jail cell after an unreasonable traffic stop. The officer who made the stop said that he removed her from her car because she was combative but video footage shows that she was not combative and that she exercised her rights (NY Daily News,2014). They have shed light on many issues that are not acknowledged by the general population. Among these women include Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton. Surprisingly to some, police brutality and stop are frisk aren’t the only issues within racial policing. Akin to Mothers Against Police Brutality, the Black Lives Matter Movement is another organization founded by young black Americans who are tired of how racial discrimination influences racial policing. The mission of the Black Lives Matter Movement is to “actively resist the dehumanization” of the black people in America. They also want to call on the black people in America to “love black, live black , and buy black ”. The founding of this organization has shed light on how racial policing in America should be stopped and how black people should come together to unite their culture against discrimination. With the use of social media, the Black Lives Matter Movement were able to speak with the 2016 election front-runners, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, to spread their message against racial policing. In addition to that, the Black Lives Matter Movement and students at the University of California were able to influence the school to withdraw over $30 million from prison systems who they believe are plagued with many black men …show more content…
In retaliation towards the Black Lives Matter Movement, All Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter was created to silence people about the existence of how racial discrimination influences racial policing. To aid in the argument that the Black Lives Matter is not a great movement, the media has also influenced what people think about it. Bill O 'Reilly, controversial television host, really weighed in on the debate in which he defines the Black Lives Matter Movement as something that is killing the American people. He said “The media will not spotlight that much of the violent crime in America is being committed right now by young black men”. He accused the Black Lives Matter Movement of promoting violence and perpetuating a "false narrative" around police shootings.
