Most people who own weapons do not try to hurt or to injure others just because they have the means to defend themselves. Arguments in favor and against gun control have been a constant battle in the United States of America. The question continues on a daily basis about the gun control controversy, with both sides not able to compromise in order to come up with an agreement that pleases them. Society in the U.S will continue to debate that guns are just a tool to kill innocent people, while others say it is a way to defend their home. The constant battle between society and the government on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution continues to remain, if individuals should have the right to bear arms or not.

According to M. Lee (2014), “In the 1930s, in reaction to gun violence by organized crime groups during Prohibition, the National Firearms Act and the Federal Firearms Act were passed banning machine guns, imposing taxes on gun sales, and regulating certain kinds of sales and shipments of guns.” This was just the start of the changes to the gun laws. Other major events which occurred before a stricter gun control laws, were the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the President Kennedy. These murders led to the creation of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) which started to inspect firearms dealers and enforced current gun control laws. Most states have similar gun laws, but there is much work to be done before all 50 states get align with the same regulations. The state of Florida was the first one to pass a law that prohibited a firearm to be loaded where a minor may gain easy access to it, and by the year 2000, only 17 states passed alike laws to protect minors. Both sides have petitioned for numerous legislative and administrative remedies that befits their own agenda, whether is for guns or against firearms and stricter gun control. Whenever an event happens in the U.S. such as a murder, school shooting, or other major event, that is the time when society gets together and demands stricter gun control methods. Both sides of the gun control debate need to sit down and see that the reality is, people are killing people. Society need to see that the guns don’t kill people, people kill people and the bottom line is that guns do kill people. A change must happen in the U.S. and the citizens and the government need to look at other countries in gun control for advice. There is also a great need for a major overhaul of all the laws dealing with the gun control, especially doing some type of change to the 2nd
