Bustling streets, honking horns, lofty and colossal structures are what modern individuals envisage when they imagine a city. A vast majority of the population doesn’t even consider what the first recorded city in history was fabricated of, much less even consider what it took for the cities that they abide in to be constructed. Everything that exists in the modern world was made possible by the team of architects, engineers, estimators, project managers, and a myriad other construction workers who put their heads together to create something prodigious that would last for decades to come. Construction that occurs before the designing of a project is completed, which now accounts for more than 40% of modern building projects, is called fast track construction (Knecht). Fast track construction is advantageous for getting a hospital up and running in 12 months, rather than 2 years; however, this rushing could cause engineers to overlook advancements of technology that could significantly benefit the job. This also puts a strain on the project managers, especially the electrical project managers. Electrical project managers, similarly to other project managers, are persistently searching for ways to save money on the job so that they can earn a greater profit; however, when you manage a fast-track job you don’t get as pronounced of an opportunity to save money as on a standard job as you don’t have time to research to find cheaper products, plus with people trying to complete phases of the job so quickly there are an amplified amount of inaccuracies. The majority of fast track jobs are pressed for workers, so employers believe that they can fix everything with pre-fabrication and hiring unskilled workers to complete the job, but more often than not this causes contractors to be necessitated to redo work (McCorkle).
