Into The Field Of Education Essay

Teachers get into the field of education for a number of reason. Some teach because they want to teach students about something they love. Others teach because they want to give back to their community. And then, there are those who want to teach so that they can impact the lives of students. No matter the reason, there are teachers all over the world that have dedicated their lives to the advancement of students. The dedication of teachers is what ensures that we live in a world that is constantly improving. Kottler, Zehm and Kottler (2005) believe “the goal of education is not to teach subject matter but to promote the development of productive and positive human beings” (p.4). As teachers, we have an obligation to the society in which we live to prepare productive and positive leaders. After being in the Master’s program at Walden University, I feel that I understand the great task of being a teacher. I look forward to opportunity to impact the students I come into contact with every day.

Before becoming a Walden student, I had no clue how I could contribute to the world of education. As I have learned more about the field of education, I now understand that my contribution does not have to be to the world. It can be on a much smaller scale. Instead of trying to reach the world, which is still a goal of mine, I can start by reaching my department. My school services almost 4,000 students. The idea that “a teacher affects eternity” presented by Henry Adams is a powerful one that has always made me stop and pause. Coming from a family of teachers, I have always had much respect for the profession and admired my relatives who have given countless hours, wisdom, and love to their students. I have been fortunate to witness firsthand the idea that Adams has put forth, as I have seen my mom and other relatives truly impact their now adult students. Because of this inspiration, I have decided to pursue teaching and want to better understand the education I will need to become one and what life looks like as a teacher. To understand what the life of a teacher is like, I will gain information about education, day-to-day interaction, and…

The American Education System is considered to be ranked 36th in the world wide ranks of education systems as of 2013 (Coleman). This ranking indicates that there is a major problem with the American Education System. Though many people believe that reform must come in the form of larger budgets this is not the case, money actually does not have a direct link with student performance (Robinson). The reform for the American Education System needs to come in the form of teachers with more will and want to help, focusing on the true needs of students and shifting the focus from testing to real learning. From the start, teachers have had one of the biggest impacts on a student’s education experience.…

Primarily, our goal is to impart wisdom on them that will be applicable for the rest of their lives. While I’ve come to realize my message will not reach every student, being able to impact any students life possibly is more than enough incentive for me to continue educating students at the highest…
