The Feudal System
The feudal system was an ongoing system in Europe that lasted for around 800 years. The feudal system involved royalty, the church, merchants, and peasants/serfs. The royalty although making up only a small percent of the system was the main controlling factor. They were able to achieve this and keep this system working for 800 years through multiple controlling factors.
The first way they controlled the peasants was through the mind. This was achieved with the help of the church. They used the power of faith and religion to make people bend to their will. For example when the next king is crowned, he is crowned because he is the first born son of the last king and …show more content…
They would keep the people right on the line of being malnourished and able to work. This was so that when the serfs did get food they would be grateful, listen, and they would not be strong enough to revolt or protest and if they did they wouldn’t be that hard to deal with. If royalty has control of the food and water people are bound to obey the royalty is they want to survive. The royalty also would torture anyone that thought of anything remotely close to changing things or disobeying and protesting. This horrible pain to the body would make it to where any peasant that went through it would die or never protest again, and since the royalty kept the torture dungeon in an area where every serf could hear the tortured screams, it added a fear factor which plays into the mind controlling.
In conclusion the royalty was able to use the feudal system as an effective system for 800 years through master manipulation. They used the church, religion, faith, and fear to control the minds of the serfs and the royalty used torture, strength, and control of resources to control the bodies of the serfs. Although a rather brutal system the feudal system proved to be a well enough system to last as shown by it working for 800
