The Fetus Constellation

My favorite constellation is the Cetus or 'whale' because I think it looks more like a frying pan than a whale. The Cetus is a constellation made up of 88 stars and the brightest star is called Deneb Kaitos. The Cetus is very close to the other zodiac constellations such as Aries, Pisces and Aquarius.

The creation story of the Cetus constellation stems from Greek mythology. In this story the Cetus is called a Sea Monster and not a whale. According to the myth Poseidon sent the sea monster named Cetus to attack the Cassiopeia. Poseidon did this because he was angry with Cassiopeia for telling everyone that her daughter was the most beautiful woman in the land. Cassiopeia feared the monsters wrath more than she loved her daughter and decided

When the bacon was cooked and ready she sat down to eat it. “What a lovely start to the day”, she said. After eating her crispy bacon strips the woman was in such a rush that she didn’t have time to wash the frypan clean so she sat it by the front door so she wouldn’t forget to do it later and left for work. That night the woman came home very late. It was dark outside and the sun had gone to bed. As she walked up the steps to her house she saw a strange figure loom out of the shadows. She quickly shoved the key in the door and turned the handle. But she was too slow. Soon there were cold, slippery fingers pulling her hair and her cloths and her shoulder. The woman was scared. Very, very scared. She managed to get her right foot through the door and it landed with a CLANG. Then she remembered that she had left her dirty frypan there. Without wasting a second, the woman bent down and picked up the frypan. Then she spun round and smacked the strange man on the head. The man blinked three times and then fell down, asleep. The woman looked up into the night sky, thanking God she had not washed her dishes that morning. As she watched the stars twinkle and shine she noticed a collection of 88 stars that looked a lot like the frypan she held in her hand, and so, she decided to call these stars The Frypan Stars. And she knew they would always be watching over

Similar to Hera, Poseidon’s hatred leads him to create obstacles in Odysseus’s life, obstacles Odysseus has to overcome using his strengths as a hero. “The storm that had blown up from the west subsided soon enough but was quickly followed by more wind from the south to my great distress for this meant that I should have one more to run the gauntlet of the dread Charybdis” (Homer,200). On a voyage at sea Odysseus faces a dreadful storm caused by the will of Poseidon, “Charybdis” in Greek myth is described as a dreadful sea monster that demolishes anything within its path, it is obvious that Poseidon’s hatred has led him to commit his full efforts to murdering Odysseus. Similar to Heracles, Odysseus has gods who aim to murder them but in contrast both heroes also have gods within their favor that aid them…
