This happened to my mother. She didn’t want to spook it because she didn’t want it to spray herself or her car. So of course, she didn’t drive her car that night, and she waited out the skunk until morning. Plus, it is irritating letting our dogs out at night in fear they will get sprayed by a skunk or bitten by a raccoon. One night my dogs had a barking match with a possum. What frustrates me the most is a neighbor putting food out for skunks. I would think it would be common sense that you don’t feed wild animals. Even though this complaint has been addressed, it still continues. A few suggestions from the home owners association was store trash correctly, don’t feed stray animals, and keep your lawn clean of debris. Most agreed to support this effort because they understood the dangers of having wild animals roaming the neighborhood. Animals carry diseases and can be aggressive which is why we want to provide a safe environment for community . Plus, it would be nice to have a few nights when the neighborhood doesn’t stink and I am able to have my windows open to enjoy the fresh air. For the most part, the home owners follow the rules except for a few. If each homeowner made sure that their trash is safely secured every day, the animals would be less attracted to our area. These animals are just searching for food. They must feed their family just like we must feed our family. Also, If we don’t leave food out for strays or wild animals, they won’t be attracted to the area. Last, we must keep the yard free of debris because animals like to seek shelter in junk. Animals will hide and sleep in larger items that provide shelter so store items in sheds or garages. These rules provide a simple solution to a pesky problem, and if we have to penalize neighbors who disobey. It may fix the problem. With this solution in place, our kids can have a safer outside environment, maybe a less smelly neighborhood, and the wild animals will still have their
