It was a hobby first, and then I had jobs around that area. Now I am finally getting my EET degree. My grandfather was soldering ham radio equipment on his free time as long as I remember him. My stepdad is Senior Electrical Engineer. So, needless to say, we have electronic gadgets, powered tools and devices everywhere. The only down side is power bill. I believe it is common problem nowadays. Worldwide usage of electricity is increasing daily. I am really glad to see energy producing industry creating new ways. Wind, geothermal, solar and tidal technologies are slowly getting more and more advanced. Now we need just time lower the manufacture to the reasonable price and build the infrastructure for it. It will be years until that happy time. By the estimate, in the year 2020 levelized cost of Solar-Thermal and Wind-Offshore electric generating technology will be about 2.5-3.5 times more than Advanced Nuclear. (“Annual Energy Outlook 2015.”) So, for the period of time needed for new generation resources to be able to produce the significant part of electricity, nuclear power is still the cheapest and safest for the people and for the …show more content…
Nowadays there are a lot of different movements against nuclear industries. All kind of public protesters and political activists have the influence on government. And now they celebrating every closure of a plant like it is a good thing. It is actually works backward. World consumption of energy increased by 2257 billion kilowatt-hours from 2007 to 2012. At the same time number of reactors dropped by 48. Most of the shortage was filled not by environmentally friendly sources as everybody would expect. We got back to burning natural gas.( “International Energy Statistics.”) It is the biggest provider of the greenhouse gas emission after the coal. With this logic we will return back to burning firewood for fuel. We cannot stop or reduce global climate change by increasing pollution. So, after we put all ideological nonsense aside nuclear energy do not look that terrifying. It is dangerous. There are no doubts about it. But main point, it is highly controllable. And it up to us how safe we want it to be. At some point of human history we overcame our fear of the fire. Now it is our friend and helper in spite of its ability to be devastating. First aircrafts, first boats, first heart transplant there are thousands of dangerous thing became everyday safe routine. And first steps have already done, a lot of lessons have already learnt.
