Ares is one of the 12 olympians and is the son of Zeus and Hera (“Ares”). Ares had three siblings Eilithyia, Hebe, and Hephaestus. He was lovers with Aphrodite. Together they had children such as Himeros, Pothos, Phobos, Deimos and Armonia (“Ares”). He also had a daughter with Aglaulus named Alcippe who was raped by Allirothios one of Poseidon’s sons.. He had promised his sister that he would fight on the side of Achaeans but went back on his word encouraged by Aphrodite, the only god or mortal who could tame him and sided with the Trojans instead (Battle between Ares and Athena)
. This got Athena really mad. She went to Zeus and requested permission to get Ares off the battlefield. Zeus, not caring much for Ares in the first place,accepted her request.
Ares is described as a strong man with a peaked warriors helmet and a bloodstained spear. Sometimes he was shown with a shield or a sword. Ares sacred animals were a serpent, a vulture and some species of owl. The most famous of the gods animals was the Colchian Dragon. This was a serpent set by ares to guard the golden fleece. He also had the ismenian dragon to guard his sacred springs from Thebes.
Ares doesn 't have a set celebration. What could be counted as his celebration is when before battles soldiers would offer sacrifice themselves in a way of helping them win the battle they were about to fight or even give a sacrifice of war prisoners (“Ares”).
