The famous Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was one of the renounced men of the leading literary deities of Bengal. He has composed several books with his fascinating writings such as Nishkriti, Charitraheen, Parineeta and Srikanta, but however his most celebrated novel is Devdas. Devdas was translated into English by Sreejata Guha. It was published in 1917, and is set in the same time frame. Over the years, the novel has gained the reputation of a classic. Sarat Chandra was born in the year 1876 on September 15th, at a place called Devanandapur which is located in a village in West Bengal.
