“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” (2.2.36). When someone thinks about Romeo and Juliet, this quote usually comes to mind. All around the world, people have heard the story of the two star-crossed lovers, their romantic story, and their dreadful fate. For those who don’t know, the basis of Juliet consists of two families - Montagues and Capulets - whom are part of a feud. Eventually, two members of the opposing families (Romeo and Juliet) meet each other and fall in love; however, they aren’t meant to love one another due to their families. Their desperation soon leads to a horrible tragedy. Throughout the years, many readers have debated what caused Romeo and Juliet’s sad outcome, and many claims have been made to support their reasons. In my opinion, the blame for Romeo and Juliet’s end cannot be put on one individual. I conclude that the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s fate is spread throughout individuals and things in the story. More specifically, I believe that Friar Lawrence, the Feud between the two families, and Fate are primarily to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. …show more content…
Although, I believe he is trying to do what he believes is right, it all backfires in the end. For example, he makes the potion that made Juliet appear dead. This eventually results in Romeo killing himself, because he believes that Juliet is dead. Additionally, Friar Lawrence was the one who trusted Friar John to fulfill his quest of delivering the message to Romeo which ended in utter failure. Lastly, the quote “Stay not to question, for the watch is coming. Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay.” (5.3.163-164) reads how Friar Lawrence left Juliet in the tomb alone in fear that he would be caught be the watchmen. This then leads to Juliet killing herself, which Friar Lawrence could’ve potentially
