Laurel -the subject of the poem and main character- is quite intriguing to say the least. The reason I chose to do this poem on her is because she underwent through so much character development during the course of the book. However, throughout the book she maintains four strong character traits: naivety, strength, eloquence, and spontaneity. She is the sister of May, who is now deceased. The reason she is "the fairy with broken wings" is because Laurel enjoys talking about how she and May used to pretend they were fairies, and May's wings "shattered" when she died. May also pertains to line five (because she has already lost May) and line eight. The boy with the green eyes represents Sky, Laurel's love interest throughout the book. Line
