The first secretary of the Union Nikita Khrushchev directed a substantial amount of the union’s revenue to missiles. As a consequence, the union performed badly in terms of agriculture and the other essential parts of the economy. Countries such as the USSR took advantage of the economic and agricultural decline, bringing up industries and benefiting their nation.
