The Failure Of American Education

This is an unprecedented time is American education. I believe many of the reforms implemented over the previous two decades are predicated on the false premise that American schools are failing, and further, that teachers and school leaders are not sufficiently motivated to do anything about it.

Combined with reduced fiscal support of public schools, these reforms have had the additional effect of demoralizing our teachers by stripping them of autonomy and subjecting them to invalid and inaccurate teacher evaluation schemes. Hence, it is no surprise that schools across our state and nation are now severely challenged by critical teacher shortages and lack of resources.
