Funding opportunities are quite unequal in the US public schools. The biggest example of this is in low income areas were most people are renters and suburban neighborhoods were people owned homes. Local and state funding depends on property taxes to provide funding to public schools. If your area has a high number of renters, then you will have less people to pay property and less money for schools. It usually decided by the school board, teachers, administrators and teachers. A well-structured curriculum can be the cornerstone of a successful school district. The biggest issue when we are talking about inequality is how are state testing is composed. Test questions usually come right from the curriculum that is used in school. If a school district cannot afford the curriculum they will have large number of students who will not do well on these high stake tests. There is some evidence that some of the test questions were copy word from word from certain curriculums. If the student did have access to these materials, they would not have access to the correct answer.

Elite Private Schools have small classroom sizes, less than 15 students in a class. They have will have better maintained facilities; libraries, computer labs, laboratories, athletic gyms, etc. Teachers tend not to have tenure or belong to unions, so ineffective teachers can be fired or terminated. They have a more robust tax base since many families are in the middle or higher income base. School boards are usually filled with parents who are usually know in the community and who own children attend those schools. They tend to have more money for extracurricular activities and sports.
Parochial Schools are running by religious authority and make all the decisions about how the school is running and what curriculum will be used. Class sizes are usually bigger than private school classrooms. The have stricter discipline policies and have increase in homework and classwork. Students attending these schools are from families of middle to working class parents.
Large Urban Public Schools are part of a larger school district and are attain in large cities. They have various courses of study and may have less homework than their suburban peers. The School board is usually filled with people who have little knowledge of the schools they govern. These schools have less funding because of lower tax base.
