My family and I had waited for this phone call for over two years and there it was I distinctly remember the the high pitched ring. As I watch my dad's face go through a range of emotions as he spoke to the unknown person on the phone. He says i'll be there by six tonight and hung up. As my family and I ask who was it? Is everything okay? What was it about? He replies with tears of joy, fear, and every emotion in between “I got it, I got the kidney and pancreas transplant .” The range of emotions and tears then fill my family's and I faces. It seemed so unreal, there's no way he's getting his second chance at life. Many may see it as a hardship or tragedy I see it as the biggest blessing and blessing in disguise from God. This blessing shaped me into who I am today with giving me self motivation and putting myself out for the world to see. This has helped me in so many ways but he most impactful way has been through the FFA. With the events through this journey I have broaden my horizons in life and through the FFA. Through this journey I was in 4-H which is an agriculture and leadership based program. Which lead me into the FFA in the middle of this journey and that created a completely new journey and future. From the time that our family was going through this journey I just knew that after seeing all the therapy he went through I was going to be a pediatric physical therapist and up until I was seventeen and going into my senior year of high school this statement was true. Then one day I began to wonder what will I do with all my love and passion for the FFA and agriculture? How will it plan a roll in my future? I knew I couldnt just let all of my knowledge and passion go down the drain I had worked way to hard for what I had been given and to many others had moved mountains to get me where I am today in my leadership roles through the FFA. As I thought about how to merge my two passions together I came up with the perfect merger I will be pursuing a career in agriculture

When I first joined FFA, I had no idea of the impact it would have on me. Funnily enough, I originally thought of it just as a stepping stool into become a veterinarian- obviously plans have changed. And although my original goal and reason for joining has changed, I’m grateful that I did join, because FFA has impacted me in more ways than one. It goes beyond other experiences because as far as an educational experience goes, it has taught me a great deal than I ever expected. FFA has gone beyond just teaching me about cows, plants, and farming, it’s taught me business, life and leadership skills.…

My personal experience with FFA is all post high school. I believe that my admission to the KU School of Nursing would contribute to this philosophy in many ways. I was raised in a community where a Hispanic woman, like myself, was not expected to graduate from high school, let alone attend college. The expectations for minorities are not set as high, which is unbelievable and also very sad. There is hope for minorities like me and I believe that my admission into your school would show my community as well as many patients that minorities can have a successful career and anybody can rise beyond where they were raised. I graduated from high school with honors, as well as with a full-ride scholarship to college.…

Being able to craft a new organ out of a patient’s own cells that is guaranteed to be a perfect match and could be made to order, sounds like a beautiful, unmanageable fantasy especially to those like me who have watched a loved one go through the never-ending process of getting an organ transplant. Bioprinting could one day turn that seemingly impossible dream into a reality and completely revolutionize the world of organ transplants. I can imagine the years of my father having to deal with the limitations put on his life by dialysis disappearing and the stress of waiting for a perfect match it lifted off our shoulders. Though of course fully-functioning organs are extremely complex and may not be printed for years, every researcher tackling the problem brings bioprinted organs closer to reality. I want to be a part of that revolution.…
