Critically-Acclaimed Author Nicholas Sparks
Art is memorable, thought-provoking, and riveting. Nicholas Sparks is an artist because his novels are memorable, though-provoking, and riveting. My favorite artist is Nicholas Sparks, an author. He writes love stories mostly revolving around tragedies sans the typical happy ending (IMDb). All of his books have been New York Times bestsellers, and “adaptations of Nicholas Sparks’ novels have a cumulative worldwide gross of over three-quarters of a billion dollars,” (Nicholas Sparks Biography). He has “over 97 million copies sold worldwide, in more than 50 languages, including over 65 million copies in the United States alone,” (Nicholas Sparks Biography). He has written seventeen novels and a memoir,

In The Best of Me one of the main points it focuses on is the Romeo & Juliet type relationship. They are in love, but their families tear them apart. This sets the stage for one of the main issues separating Amanda and Dawson, as well as the reason they had separated when they were teenagers. “Can love really overcome insert obstacle here” is an unrelenting theme in Sparks’ novels. Is their love strong enough to bear the opposition of not only their family, but society? The star-crossed lovers hadn’t made it once before, but can they do it this time? Add to the mix Amanda’s alcoholic husband (and Dawson’s homicidal cousins) and you have to really think what the right path is for them both. “I gave you the best of me, he 'd told her once, and with every beat of her son 's heart, she knew he 'd done exactly that,” (The Best of Me 291). When Sparks wrote this it really makes the reader feel bittersweet. No one wants to bury the love of their life, but would you rather bury your child instead? The end was indeed sad, but Sparks made you think at every opportunity about what was the right course of …show more content…
His most recent book The Longest Ride is my favorite of his books, and I was so engrossed reading it. The Longest Ride follows his usual rotating protagonist format, and follows three main characters. When you get used to one protagonist, it switches to a different protagonist, which keeps you on your toes. In addition to his intriguing plot, this story he crafted is touching. Hearing about the life Ira and his diseased wife, Ruth, lived in his ninety one years of life gives an air of sweetness, while the story of Sophia and Luke is exciting. His words create an overall charm unique to his books that keep his readers wanting more. “Look at our life, at the trips we took, the adventures we had. As your father used to say, we shared the longest ride together, this thing called life, and mine has been filled with joy because of you.” (The Longest Ride 361). Ira says these touching words to his diseased wife before his own death. Its things like this quote, the emotions it evokes, that captivate Sparks’ audience. He doesn’t need a lengthy quote to achieve results though, a mere few words can have the same affect. Ruth’s letters to Ira contained the line, “And in your smile, I will live forever,” (The Longest Ride 357). Just these few words carry such an impact it will stay with Sparks’ readers for a long time, and to get to read such touching words is what grips his fans so they can’t stop

Music lyrics express emotions, experiences, and tell stories. They are used to communicate with other people and for the artist to express themselves through song. “Music is what feelings sounds like” (Georgia Gates). The lyrics of popular music shouldn’t be censored because they aren’t harmful to children’s development, lyrics have meaningful content, they help people through rough times, and they teach about the world. Many favorite artists come from unique backgrounds, “some had to deal with their friends dying … others had to deal with their mothers being prostitutes, and maybe they had to deal with not having their dad around” (University Wire).…

The treatment of mental patients has greatly improved since the 1960s, but it still is not perfect. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a novel written by Ken Kesey and published in 1962. When authority hating Randle McMurphy is committed to the ward, he notices the head nurse, Nurse Ratched, manipulates her patients to keep her authority, rather than actually benefit the patients. Respect as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary is stated as “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something, elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.” Respect is something you cannot teach through words, it is something you earn. After reading Wes Moore’s The Other Wes Moore I believe that success or failure in life is not a result of where you grow up, the education you receive or even the genes you are born with. Success in life comes from instilling virtuous qualities from those you respect and exemplifying them in your own life.…
