The movie’s opening scene provided the clues towards later answering who the demonic is in the movie. Throughout the entire film you see occurrences of the demon taking over the actions and bodies of its host. The opening scene is an example of when the demonic over took the actions of the archaeologist/priest. Having located what I believe to be a relic of the demon, the change in the priest is apparent. While I wasn’t fully aware of the name of the demon in the movie, mostly because I was preoccupied something frightening was going to appear, I was able to look it up. The incident at the doctor’s office is the first real apparent occurrence of the demon taking over her body. Her angst toward the nurse and doctor becomes more severe the more she interacts with them. She becomes increasingly stronger. She refuses to have blood drawn, which at first one might think it is because she is afraid. It is not until the doctor is discussing Reagan's choice of medication that we, as an audience, learn of the increasing possession. The voice of the Pazuzu the demon is coming across and she uses strong vocabulary to get across that she does not want to be touched. In any other setting besides a doctor’s office, being touched where she did not want to be touched would be considered being violated. It is quite ironic that “Regan” did not want to be violated, while during that time she was being violated by the demon.
