The Executive Branch

The executive branch of government is responsible for administering our countries laws and policies. The executive branch is led by the president, who is the head of our nation. Just like the legislative branch, the executive branch operates under a system of checks and balances to keep power balanced within the government. The executive branch can check the judicial branch by appointing judges and giving pardons. To check the power of the legislative branch, the president can issue votes on congresses decisions, the president is the commander in chief of the military, the Vice President himself is the head of the Senate, the president can recess appointments and call either houses into session in the case of an emergency, and force an adjournment …show more content…
The president’s cabinet is made up of many different departments all dedicated to a specific area of government. The department of state’s job is to create the nation’s foreign policy. This department is in charge of keeping a nice and stable environment for American citizens to live in. The next department is the department of treasury. This group focuses on creating money, collecting taxes, and forming economic legislature. The military is controlled by the department of defense. This department’s job is to keep the military in order and our country safe from attack. The department of justice has the authority to enforce law. They must uphold the rules and boundaries set by the constitution. To make sure proper respect to the Native Americans still living within our country, the department of the interior was formed. The department of agriculture is tasked with keeping out food safe, fighting against hunger, and managing resources. The department of commerce controls our nation’s forward movement in the area of technology and economics. The department of labor’s role is to look out for America’s work force by enforcing fair pay, safety standards, and unemployment benefits. The department of education’s job is to make sure schools are not underperforming. This department can enact legislation to change the things that teachers can teach their students. Our nation’s veterans have certain benefits such as VA insurance; policies like this are monitored by the department of veteran’s affairs. Our road system, such as the interstate, has to be constantly maintained in order for the American people to safely traverse the country. The department of transportation is in charge of keeping up America’s roads. The department of homeland security is in charge of keeping American prepared for all disasters, both natural and otherwise12. All of these departments work
