My siblings and I could not date until we were sixteen years old. I had a crush on a guy when I was fifteen years old. I didn’t tell my mom until the day of my sixteenth birthday, which when the time came my mother still felt as if sixteen was too young to date. I wanted to go on my first date with a guy name Kyle. Kyle’s parents didn’t mind if Kyle took me on a date because his parents felt as if “it is different for guys”. But on the other hand my mom had set and stone at sixteen but later pushed her “dating rule” to age eighteen. When I asked my mother if I could go on a date with Kyle she told me No. Once No was her response my feelings were hurt my whole like my mom said I could date at age sixteen but when the time came my mother did not want to allow me. I was astonished of my mother’s deskin so then I told myself, “Ashley you have to put your thinking cap on and try to persuade mom.” So that is exactly what I did. My mother and I had many debates that night until I finally changed her mind. She came up with the rule such as, “Ashley you can go on a date with Kyle but I also have to attend.” It sounds a bit strange but it worked out just fine. My mother brought along my aunt Emma Jean to the date, it was not a hassle because my mother and Aunt Emma did not sit at the same table as Kyle and I they sat a few booths away but surly kept their eyes on us. My first dance was a success. This example shows the Authoritive parenting style because my mother listened to my thoughts, and we were able to work things
