Sexual dimorphism refers to a species distinct differences between the sexes resulting in distinct male and female forms. Usually this is the result of phenotype selection but, this is tied in with the selection of genotypes. Size and colorations of features in a mate may indicate features that are not readily observable. For example, the males of the three-spined stickleback fished; the more intense the red coloration of a male’s belly, the more resistant the male fish is to tapeworm infections. Females’ roles are for the handling of children and hearth, as well as gathering of materials. There are several character traits that males and females developed to aid them in their respective roles. Take for example, body size and shape; female weight 80% of male weight and female height is 94% of male height. (Bernard Campbell) The reasons for this lie in the difference of the musculature and skeletal structure of males and females. In regards for males their bones are larger, denser, and longer when compared to females bones. Males have a higher hip-to-waist ratio then women, broader shoulders and chest, as well as having larger hands and feet. These features of the male skeleton lend space and point attachment to allow for an increased muscle size. In addition the mass and size of male musculature is also naturally greater allowing for higher strength and speed.
