Mummification is a process that is made to preserve the body. At first the bodies would just be placed in sand pits and after time they would be mummified naturally from the dry heat and sand. but then when they started burying the bodies more elaborately, in rock cut tombs they realized that the bodies were decomposing and the organs were rotting meaning that they were going to have to artificially mummify the corpses so that they could be dehydrated and could successfully pass on into they after life.
